Rehearsal for SDB's Romeo et Juliet. Photographer: Gregory Olive. Dancers: Abby Avery & Max Tchernychev. Everybody's favorite pas de deux. Romeo swings Juliet around lack a sack of meat. Took a bit of time to figure out the logistics, so unfortunately our first Romeo had a lot of swing of a dead body to do.
Rehearsal for SDB's Romeo et Juliet. Photographer: Gregory Olive. Dancers: Abby Avery & Max Tchernychev. The trick is that Juliet can't really do more than point her feet. If she does more, she doesn't look "dead." But there is actually very little that someone can do choreographically with a corpse. Especially if you want to do it poetically. So it takes a few times through for the Juliets to stop trying to "help" the Romeos. and the it takes a few rehearsals for the Romeos to keep the weight lifted high on their bodies. But once they get it, its pretty effective. Especially when he swings her around and her arms just flop about.
Daily Stuff - Taught my class at SDSB. Yesterday's class at Florence was canceled due to rain. Still have the remnants of the auction lying about. Had two giant butterflies crammed into my space, until I gently insisted that perhaps it was a priority to get them out of my area.
