Rehearsal for SDB's Romeo et Juliet. Photographer: Gregory Olive. Dancers: Abby Avery & Max Tchernychev. And the final arabesque of the pas de deux.
Rehearsal for SDB's Romeo et Juliet. Photographer: Gregory Olive. Dancer: Tiffany Koepke. The big pas de deux is immediately followed by a second street scene. As I was creating the piece, this was originally where the second act would have started. I had always wanted to do the ballet in one act, but wasn't sure as to whether I would be able to tell the story the way I wanted to in that type of format. Once the dance took form, it was apparent that one act would be sufficient. it makes it a bit of a workout for the dancers playing Romeo and Juliet, but not an impossible one.
Daily Stuff - Taught company class. Rehearsed pas de deux. And then we were off to do two lecture demonstrations at Fuerte Elementary School in El Cajon. Very nice audiences. These shows can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on what the school wants. In this case, it was two 30 minute shows. Which was a breeze. Now, I am off to cover a class at SDSB for a teacher who is ill.
